Earth - "Angels Of Darkness, Demons Of Light II" CD

Recorded in the same two week session as Angels Of Darkness, Demons Of Light I by Stuart Hallerman (recorded Earth2!) at Avast! and mastered by Mell Detmer, Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light II carries on in the freely improvised, folkloric vein of the title track from the last release. Tape was rolled and spontaneous composition occurred.
Angels Of Darkness, Demons Of Light II is striking in many ways, not least in the wildly improvised nature of this particular recording. The songs ‘Sigil Of Brass’ and ‘The Corascene Dog’ perfectly emphasise how the interplay between the foursome becomes even more accomplished as the recording evolves, a testament to the dynamism of this particular line up. Meanwhile, the track ‘His Teeth Did Brightly Shine’ veers further into an entirely other direction, recalling sounds of the great British Acid Folk generation. This new material brings forth some highly original and deeply mesmerising tones throughout, at times more hopeful and less dark and death oriented than previous work.

As with the Angels 1 album the line-up again consists of Dylan R. Carlson (Guitar, Bass...Capt. of the ship!) Adrienne Davies on drums and percussion (on this release there is more percussion of all sorts), Lori Goldston returns on cello, and Karl Blau plays bass. . As with the first part, it again has truly amazing artwork by Stacey Rozich.

Included are the 100% previously unreleased "Boner’s Kitchen" demo from 1981, the complete "Darby Crash Rides Again" demo from 1982, the complete uncut live-on-the-air set from the 1983 KBOO radio benefit, and lastly, outtakes from the "Record Collectors Are Pretentious Assholes" recording session. Much of this material has either been out of print or never before officially releaased! All the recordings have been meticulously restored/mastered by Jack Control at Enormous Door Mastering for this release. ØØ Void was the second album recorded by sunn O))) circa 2000. At that time, the guitarist & core members: Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson were joined by guest bassist collaborator Stuart Dahlquist (Burning Witch, Goatsnake). ØØ Void also features some incredible contributions from both Petra Haden (Violinist/Vocalist) and Pete Stahl (vocals). Their melodic evocations are seamlessly woven within this thick sonic tapestry. The group approached the compositions of this album in a different way than their previous recordings: each member focused intently on one composition/piece and brought it into the recording session. Then, each of those songs that were brought in were translated to the other members and nuances were worked out ,on the spot, in the studio.

Greg Anderson (aka The Duke) brought in NNO))), Stephen O’Malley (aka Mk Ultra Blizzard) brought in RA at Dusk, Stuart Dahlquist (aka G.Subharmonia) brought in Richard.

The exception to all this was the inclusion of a rendition of a obscure Melvins song called Rabbitsí Revenge. This song was actually never recorded in the studio by the Melvins and the riffs were salvaged from a live tape that Anderson had of the band playing the Gorilla Gardens in Seattle from March of 1985!

This sunn O))) album was recorded to 24 track, on 2" tape, at Grandmaster studios in Hollywood, California... a large step forward in production values from the groups debut recording, The Grimmrobe Demos. Fellow sub-sonic enthusiast Scott Reeder (the Obsessed, Kyuss, Goatsnake) captured that particular incantation of sunn O))) on huge reels of tape.

ØØ Void was originally released in 2000 by Hydra Head in the USA and Rise Above in the UK and Europe. They have been out of print for approximately 8 years now.

Loincloth - "Iron Balls of Steel" CD

Instru-metal/progressive act Loincloth formed following the demise of Raleigh, North Carolina-based death/doom act Confessor. Confessors’ drummer Steve Shelton and guitarist Cary Rowells were recruited by Richmond, Virginia-area guitarists Tannon Penland (Kenmores, Koszonom) and Pen Rollings (Breadwinner, Honor Role, Butterglove). The Loincloth lineup was now fully realized, and the mathematical madness began to unfold. Loincloth released their first recordings in the form of a four-song demo in 2003, which was met with immediate interest from Southern Lord. Southern Lord unleashed three of these tracks on a limited edition 7". Another track from the demo was included on a Swami Records compilation: :"Swami Sound System Vol 1 that year as well. With the current band lineup now a simplified power trio comprised of Penland, Shelton and Rowells, the first output from Loincloth since 2003 is now upon us. "Iron Balls of Steel is the bands first official full-length release. Constantly crafting and reshaping riffs into no-nonsense metal brutality, the album serves as an offering to all who feel that metal allows for more freedom of expression than other forms of music. It has been 8 years since Wolves in the Throne Room’s much mythologized genesis. Over the course of 3 studio albums and hundreds of live performances the band has slowly boiled away the prima materia of Black Metal to distill a unique essence.

The transmutation reaches a new level with the completion of Celestial Lineage the clans’ new Astral Black Metal document. In contrast to the bleakly hypnotic architecture of 2008’s Black Cascade, Celestial Lineage expands into a more expansive and visionary territory. Although it is obviously inspired by European Black Metal, Wolves in the Throne Room create music that is intensely local in it’s orientation. Certainly, Celestial Lineage is a manifestation of the northwestern landscape, but it also arises out of an underground West Coast tradition formed by successive generations of psychic crusaders: Theosophists, beatniks, the Grateful Dead, Neurosis, the back-to-the-land movement, satanic hippies, tree-spiking anarchist punks. The resulting music invokes a misty dream world. Rain drenched specters looming at the edge of the wood. Echoes from the Astral Plane. Ancient cedar deities robed in moss. A glimpse of a bronze-domed temple among the firs. Celestial Lineage was written and recorded over the course of the first six months of 2011.

The Weaver brothers worked with Producer/mystic Randall Dunn (Earth, Boris, SUNN 0))), Cave Singers, Bjork/Omar Souleyman), with whom the band has developed a close relationship since their first collaboration on 2007’s Two Hunters. 3 songs are bejeweled by Jessika Kenney’s liturgical choir and solo voice. Aaron Turner (ISIS) also contributes orations to the maelstrom.

Noothgrush - "Live For Nothing" CD

The now legendary Noothgrush from the Bay area was berthed in the spring of 1994 by founding members Gary Niederhoff on Bass and Chiyo Nukaga on drums. Over the next year the band had various other members including Matt Harvey (Exhumed, Repulsion) on 2nd guitar. It wasn’t until guitarist Russ Kent joined in early 1995 that the classic Noothgrush lineup was complete! Noothgrush played 145 shows, toured the U.S. and Quebec for 7 weeks, did numerous west coast, and southwest tours. The band was well known for their consistently bludgeoning assault played at slow as boiling tar tempos.  Noothgrush ceased to exist in 2001, as the band sought to develop new material and not be forced to perform the old repertoire. Unfortunately, involvement with other bands, jobs, etc. kept Noothgrush from developing.

"Live For Nothing" is a compilation of two live on the radio broadcasts the band did in the 90s. One is from KZSU from 1996 and the other from KFJC in 1999. Both recordings are a precise document of the powerful group in their prime. The recordings were mastered by Brad Boatright (From Ashes Rise guitarist) and breathe black fumes of toxins once again!
