Corrosion of Conformity - "Your Tomorrow Pt. 1 & 2" 7"
In 1986 I saw a show that absolutely changed my life. The band that tore my head off was Corrosion of Conformity. I was a huge fan of their debut album "Eye For an Eye" but no one including myself was prepared for what the next move of COC would be. The band got rid of their frontman/singer and became a 3 piece with bassist Mike Dean handling vocal duties. They released the ground breaking crossover masterpiece: "Animosity" and hit the road! Their blend of punk rock aesthetic combined with aggressive metallic power blew every one away and layed the groundwork for countless bands to come.
The legacy of C.O.C. has more depth and longevity than more bands can even come close to claiming. While they have changed lineups and styles many times over the last 25+ years they have consistently remained vital, relevant and most of all HEAVY! Over the course of 2010 the original 3 piece "Animosity-era" lineup (Mike Dean, Woodroe Weatherman, Reed Mullin) decided to reconvene and tear shit up in the vein of the classic stylings of before!
It goes without saying that Southern Lord is beyond excitement to be releasing the very first recordings of this “Animosity” lineup of C.O.C. They are the bastard sons of Motorhead, Autopsy and Discharge on a filth kick of old school punk metal violence! The end result of those monumental sessions is a recording much darker, heavier and more brutal than anything they have done before. However, after listening to just five seconds of the albums opening track: Black Sin (Spit On The Cross) its painfully obvious the band has let their Swedish death metal obsession take control! After the band's demise in 1990, the members reformed under the moniker of FU MANCHU. This anthology contains all known recordings by Virulence. Boris - Japanese Heavy Rock Hits 3 7" vinyl
The first 7", Volume One, "8", features two newly recorded tracks. On Side A, the title track "8" continues the spacey hard-rock sound established on their classic albums Pink and Smile, building from a mono, lo-fi wall of feedback into a ripping, slab of lush vocals, crunchy guitar and thunderous drums. Things get switched up on Side B with "Hey Everyone", a chewy bit of power-pop bubblegum that sees the band mining a much lighter source for their sound. It's a reminder that the most daring thing this band can do is record something so straight-forward it could easily be misconstrued as "alt-pop". Dont fret its still got a dark core and is unmistakably Boris! Gorgeous tip-on, heavy-weight cardboard jacket designed by Stephen O'Malley.
The second of three new Boris 7"s is available now! Volume Two, "H.M.A. - Heavy Metal Addict", features two newly recorded tracks. On Side A, the title track "H.M.A." is a heady slab of heavy metal tropes, alternating between spacey industrial SFX, hard-driving guitar and the mantra-like chants of the titular acronym. Side B continues with "Black Original", which echoes the spacey, electronic drive of "H.M.A.", but cuts out any pretense towards the heavy rock vibe of Boris' work, instead leaning towards a very basic electro-industrial approach. Cover features the controversial photo (ala Cold Lake era Celtic Frost!) of Atsuo. TRULY GRIMM!
The third and final chapter in BORIS' Japanese Heavy Rock Hits series. ..And it can be strongly argued that they have saved the best for last! The A-Side track is an exercise in beautiful simplicity, a downtempo mix of dulcet guitars and steady snare and hi-hat beats featuring guitarist WATA's sugary-sweet vocals. The flip is a slow droning number that is a spiritual cousin to classic Boris tracks like "Farewell" and "Fuzzy Reactor." $6.33 EACH

The albums jacket is a heavy-weight cardboard "tip-on" style that contains two printed inner-sleeves and a fold out "poster" with the lyrics and album credits. SUNN O))) - Monoliths & Dimensions CD
SUNN O))) is proud to present their 7th studio album, after 10 years of existence, entitled Monoliths & Dimensions. The album showcases the core guitar duo - Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson - incorporating influences from a plethora of guest musicians, bringing the SUNN O))) sound to epic new levels. The band also collaborated with composer Eyvind Kang (notable for his work with John Zorn, Marc Ribot, Bill Frisell, etc.) on various acoustic ensembles, in addition to the Helios fueled electric guitars and basses. Key players on the album include Australian guitar genius Oren Ambarchi, enigmatic Hungarian vocalist Attila Csihar (Mayhem, Tormentor, etc.) and slow music godfather Dylan Carlson (Earth), as well as Julian Priester (worked with Sun Ra in the 50s, John Coltrane’s African Brass band, and Herbie Hancock’s Sextant band) and new-music horn player Stuart Dempster. There's also an upright bass trio, French & English horns, harp & flute duo, piano, brass, reed & strings ensembles, and a Viennese woman's choir led by Persian vocal savant Jessika Kenney.
The album is not "SUNN O))) with strings" or "metal meets orchestra" material. The band took an approach concentrating on more of allusion toward the timbre of feedback and the instruments involved, so the piece is really illusory, beautiful and not entirely linear, stating that the end product is "the most musical piece we’ve done, and also the heaviest, powerful and most abstract set of chords we've laid to tape" The album was recorded and mixed by Randall Dunn & Mell Dettmer at various points over the last 2 years. As can be expected the packaging for this album is beautiful and appropriately compliments the audio content. Jewel case is sheathed by a velum O-card. Expansive 24 page booklet with velum cover and specially coated heavy-weight paper. Truly a site to behold!

ORAKULUM was originally composed for a live performance collaboration with the New York sculptor Banks Violette at the Maureen Paley Gallery in London, June of 06. Violette created sculptural representation of SUNN O)))s entire backline in cast resin and salt, including amplifier stacks, instruments, effects & accompaniments. In addition, black laquered stage platforms and sound panels were created as a basis for the groups actual backline setup, and a selection of drawings were presented within the context. The result of this performance and collaboration, which was conducted in a sealed gallery space, was intended to generate a feeling of absence, loss and a phantom of what once was.
The A side of this lp: BELUROL PUSZTIT was also recorded at this session. Initially this song was created for the "Jukebox Buddha" compilation as it features the use of the tone generating Buddha Boxes within the track. In the style of sunn 0))) these boxes were run through the sunn backline and recorded at maximum volume which of course yielded maximum results! BELUROL PUSZTIT " also features extra "instrumentation" from Atsuo Mizuno (Boris) on drums and Joe Preston (Earth, Melvins, Thrones) on jackhammer (!!!) !!!!
The 180 gram vinyl is packaged in a thick printed innersleeve and thick cardboard gatefold jacket. Stark, stunning photographs of Banks Violettes' sculptures adorn all sides of the gatefold, innersleeve including a drawing by Banks on the innersleeve! The vinyl version will be the only "official" release of these recordings.

Thorrs' Hammer - Dommedagsnatt LP
To commemorate the forthcoming Thorrs' Hammer reunion shows in the UK Southern Lord is reissuing the debut (and only ) recordings from Thorrs' Hammer! Thorr's Hammer was formed in Ballard, Washington by Greg Anderson and Stephen O'Malley during winter 1994-1995. Soon after,Runhild Gammelsæter, then 17-year-old Norwegian exchange student, joined the band as vocalist/lyricist. The band reached its final form when Jamie Sykes and James Hale joined. The band was active only for six weeks during which it played two gigs and recorded a demo and an EP entitled Dommedagsnatt. The band disbanded after Runhild's return to Oslo, Norway. The paramount importance of this raw album can not be appropriately conveyed in words. It was not only the very first album released on Southern Lord it was the catalyst for the majority of the output from both Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson (sunn 0))), Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine, etc..). We are proud to present to you a reissue of the album on 180 gram vinyl packaged in a gatefold sleeve with metallic silver embossing with printed innersleeve. $12

Eagle Twin - The Unkindness of Crows CD
Behold the debut album from Eagle Twin! Although Eagle Twin is a very new entity its helmsman: Gentry Densley is no stranger to innovative, heavy music. Densley was the musical visionary and leader of the legendary Jazz, Prog, Rock, Metal, Hardcore group Iceburn from 1991-2001. In order to disseminate his majestic and mountainous riffs in the present day he enlisted massively behemoth skinsman Tyler Smith. The drums are not only a driving force that efficiently steam rolls over you they conjure a repetitious mantra that is eerily infectious. The riffs and music definitely have familiar reference points (Caspar Brotzmann Massaker,Earth, sunn 0))), Melvins etc..) but are crafted in a way that stands miles beyond the others. "The Unkindness of Crows" was recorded to tape in Seattle by Randall Dunn (earth, sunn 0))), Kinski, Ascend). Earth - Radio/Live LP
In the interest of documenting exceptional and vibrant live performances by our artists, we are proud to present a exclusive, vinyl only live album from Earth. Comprised of two tracks from a live radio broadcast on KFJC (New Years Eve 2007) and two track from a live performance in Vienna on there 2008 European tour. Of particular note is that Trey Spruance (Secret Chief 3, Faxed Head) plays Baritone Guitar and sitar on the KFJC recordings. The sound quality is incredible and crystal clear! Randall Dunn (sunn 0))) , Boris, Kinski) was the live sound engineer and the recordings were ultimately mastered by Mell Dettmer. The 180 gram black vinyl comes housed in a beautiful cloth-like textured heavy-weight cardboard sleeve with metallic silver foil printing! This release is limited to 3,000 copies and as with all Southern Lord vinyl it is highly collectible and they will go fast! $18 each

sunn 0))) - Dømkirke 2xLP
Last year sunn 0))) was invivted to perform at a ancient cathedral in Bergen Norway . The performance was captured via 24 track mobile recording and the resuluts were pressed onto double 180 gram vinyl. This recording will be available exclusively on vinyl only. There will not be a digital release (cd or downloads). Pure analog! The 0))) lineup for this performance includes Attila Csihar (Mayhem) on vocals, Steve Moore (Earth, Ascend) on the churchs' legendary pipe organ and Norwegian native Lasse Marhaug on electronics.
The packaging for "Dømkirke" was designed with the utmost attention to detail and quality that perfectly compliments the audio content. Each 180 gram vinyl comes in a heavy stock, full color inner sleeve that features stunning photographs from the performance. The cover of the gatefold jackets feature exclusive art by Tanya Stene (Burzum, Ulver, Darkthrone).
The jackets themselves are ultra-durable extra thick cardboard stock with thick, luxurious lamination. These were modeled after the Impulse! labels' LP jackets from the '60s. This package is durable, built to last and serves as the perfect shelter for this archival release.

Nicholas Mollerhaug, the festival curator, wrote these liner notes for the album:
"Our idea behind this concert was to commission a piece of music from Sunn O))) referring to the gothic gregorian hymns of the Late Middle Ages. Hymns that flourished Bergen Cathedral in its earliest years: The age of the Great Famine and The Black Plague. The gregorian hymns of this time reflected the despair, the terrors and darkness of the world. Musically the hymns consisted of long slow lines of unison melodies. The unisonity, the dark mood and the slow melodic development are all elements that also can be traced back to Sunn O)))'s musical universe. These parallells between Sunn O))) and the medieval times gave birth to this commission - premiered at the grand final of Borealis Festival 2007.
The Bergen Domkirke is dedicated to the Norwegian king and patron saint Olav (995-1030). The church was built around 1150. In the 1240s it was given to Fransiscan beggar munks. After fires in 1248 and 1270 the building was extended. With the financial help of king Magnus Lagabøte (1263-1280) the church got its present form and was finished in 1301. The very same king is buried in the chansel of the church. After the reformation the church became the cathedral of Bergen. It was then again struck by fire in 1463 and 1702. A cannon ball in the the church tower is a reminisence of the Battle of Bergen Bay in 1665.
This record documents what happens when aesthetic openness and lack of prejudice rules in a medieval cathedral.
Without these values inhabited in the legendary kantor of Bergen Cathedral- Magnar Mangersnes - this concert would never have been possible.
