The wait is over! With this brand new studio album from Boris' the group plays deeply intense blistering psychedelia with mammoth hooks and truly innovative song-writing. Smile is a reinvention of dark heaviness. Smile presents a new sound from Boris which represents everything that is RIGHT NOW.
Boris hope "this is going to be a new experience for everyone beyond music 'Features collaborations with special guests: Stephen O' Malley (sunn0))), KTL), and Michio Kurihara (Ghost, White Heaven, The Stars). The Southern Lord version is drastically different than the version of Smile released by Daymare records in Japan. The main difference between the Southern Lord version and the Daymare version is the mix of the actual songs themselves. Where the songs on the Japanese version have a more electronic or noisy-psychedelic vibe, the North American/European version here features a heavier more straight-forward rock aesthetic. Its truly remarkable how the band consciously have set out (and achieved) to make two completely different sounding versions of the same album. It is a testament to their continual, endless well-spring of creativity! The Southern Lord version also features a track that has never been heard by anyone! : "You Were Holding an Umbrella". We purposely left this song off any promo versions in order to prevent the entire album from being leaked online.
Besides this phenomenal album we are offering a exclusive bonus dvd to our mail-order customers. The DVD contains videos for the songs: "Statement" , My Neighbor Satan", and "Pink". It is packaged in a 2xcd case with the Smile cd and has a individually machine-numbered sticker on the front. Only 3,000 were manufactured.

Ascend - "Ample Fire Within" CD
ASCEND is a new collaborative musical project between Gentry Densley (Iceburn, Eagle Twin) and Greg Anderson (sunn 0))), Goatsnake, Engine Kid).
Both have been making music that has crossed paths several times in the last 19 years.(!!!) The most notable being during the 90s when Andersons' band Engine Kid toured with and shared a split album with Densleys' band Iceburn. During that time both were heavily experimenting with the fusion of jazz (Mahavishnu Orchestra, Miles Davis, John Coltrane) and the dark behemoth tones of influences such as The Melvins, Gore, Slint, and the Caspar Bratzmann Massaker.
ASCEND re-visits some of the tones, and moods of their past works as well as traveling into uncharted territory all done with the utmost focus on heaviness and power.
Special guest appearances on this album by Andy Patterson (drums), Steve Moore (aka Stebmo, also in Earth and often times : sunn 0))) ) trombone, organ and wurlitzer, Bubba Dupree (Void) guitar AND none other than Kim Thayil (Soundgarden) put down some incredible lead work! The packaging and layout was created by Stephen O' Malley with a homage to our favorite jazz records of the past from labels like ECM and Impulse! (Multi-panel digi-pac w/ booklet inserted.)

Om- Live At Jerusalem LP
In December of 2007 the mighty duo that is OM made a pilgrimage to Israel to play for its people. Their pinnacle performance unfolded at 4 Aristobolus Street in Jerusalem the site of Uganda Records.
The band played for over 4 hours on this evening! The tracks: "Flight of the Eagle" and "Bhimas' Theme" were captured and the transmission of these recordings were flown back to the United States where the vinyl lacquers were made by Bob Weston .
Southern Lord in cooperation with OM present you the listener with this 180 gram black vinyl transcendental offering: OM-"Live at Jerusalem". Limited to 3,100 machine numbered copies. $20 each.

Pentemple- 0))) Presents.... LP (180 gram vinyl!)
180 gram deluxe vinyl version of this recent live documentation. In May of 2007 the mighty SUNN 0))) embarked on a Pacific Rim tour that included performances in Australia and Japan. The lineup for this tour included the core Sunn 0))) duo: Greg Anderson and Stephen O'Malley plus T.O.S. (Moog), Oren Ambarchi (analog effects and supplemental guitar) and vokillist Attila Csihar. Upon arrival in Sydney, Sunn 0))) invited one of their favourite black metal artists: Striborg over from Tasmania to collaborate with them during their show.
This unholy meeting went over very well and the inaugural ritual was a warm up gig at the Toft In Town club one evening before the larger gig at the Hi-Fi Bar (w/brethren: Boris). The results of this collaboration was a completely improvisational, vicious audio and visual assault on the sold out, standing room only audience. This was among the first time that Sunn 0))) had worked with live drums and the outcome was completely unprecedented. The whole event was recorded live to 24-track/multi-track. Afterwards Oren Ambarchi edited, sequenced and overhauled the EQ to make it as brutal as possible.

RE-ISSUE WITH BONUS TRACK OF THIS NOW CLASSIC RARE RELEASE FROM: LURKER OF CHALICE!
The debut album from LOC was originally released as a numbered, limited edition cd by Southern Lord. It immediately sold out and has now become a very sought after release. This re-issue features new packaging (a digi-pac) and a bonus track that was previously only available on the limited vinyl version. For those who are discovering this darkness for the first time, here are some words we wrote in regards to the original limited edition cd release:
LEVIATHAN creator: WREST, steps above and below his usual recording evokation of Leviathan to unleash a entirely different incarnate: LURKER OF CHALICE. With Leviathan: Wrest has poisoned the US Black Metal Underground with several now legendary works of pure black art. However their are many more layers and worlds of darkness for this artist to explore and contaminate the audio canals of the unsuspecting. `With Lurker of Chalice Wrest takes a nearly gothic approach to some of his vokills. Incorporating melodies and harmonies that although just as bleak as previous works, create a unique grim atmosphere that explores the subtle dynamics of darkness unlike anything hes' done in the past. The songs are all composed and solely performed by WREST. Some of the songs are as reminiscent of : Fields Of The Nephilim (Elizium era) and Bauhaus as they are of black metal artists like: Blut Aus Nord, Emperor, or Burzum. Indeed it still reaks of Black Metal but this material drags you through new lows that are rarely reached by nowadays orthodox black metal acts.

The songs are a mix of the thrashing aggression & mega-riffage of the previous album: The Ultimate Destroyer and the unrelenting beatings & Sabbath chugs of Carnage, mixed with a new emotionless ferocity reserved for an executioner. Earth's latest incarnation has arrived. The band returns once again to it's continuing evolution. Where "Hex" reveled in dark satanic twang and austere american beauty, "The Bees Made Honey In The Lion's Skull" finds Dylan Carlson and the band growing into a harder, more rock, american Gospel and impovisitory direction framed by truly psychedelic production and blazing guitar sounds.
Earth is also very honored to be joined on this record for three songs by legendary and virtuoso guitarist Bill Frisell. Mr. Frisell adds a brilliant texture and counterpoint to the scintillating and inspired riffs of Dylan carlson and the band. Adrienne Davies joins again on drums lending a classic and steady feel to the proceedings. Steve Moore also returns adding heavy hammond organ and his intense jazz inspired piano playing. Live Bassist Don McGreevy also makes his full length Earth debut on this record. The cd comes nicely packaged in a slip-case/o-card and features artwork by Arik Roper.

Many of you may be familiar with Jesse Sykes through her beautifully haunting vocals on the sunn 0)))/Boris-Altar album track: "The Sinking Belle". On their third album: ""Like, Love, Lust and the Open Halls of the Soul" Jesse and her band continue down the path of the dark country-flavored rock they are now becoming known for. Along this path they also create songs that sound like the day breaking through the darkness not unlike classic Neil Young or even the Allman Brothers. Some of the alumni that gathered for this album such as Bill Herzog, Steve Moore, Eyvind Kang, and Randall Dunn have strong ties to sunn 0))), Earth and Southern Lord, so although it may seem a strange release amongst our catalog, it really makes perfect sense!
